Blaze

We still haven't a suitable home or long term foster for our Blaze. He has only had two very kind offers but, unfortunately, both were unsuitable.

Blaze isn't looking for much just somewhere he can chill out, potter around and enjoy cuddles.
Ideally Blaze needs:-
*A fully secure garden where he can potter and laze around as he isn't one for long walks
*Somebody at home most of the day as he does enjoy human company
*We have no history of Blaze with cats so a cat free home would suit please
*Blaze would probably, and deservingly, prefer a home as an only dog so he can get all the cuddles
*GalwaySPCA are willing to cover Blazes retirement if he goes as a "long term foster".

*****January 2025****

Blaze is our older Boxer/Mastiff boy that we took from Waterford Pound in early October. He arrived emaciated, full of lumps and bumps, ear and skin infections. He went into a short term foster home where he received veterinary treatment and he loved home comforts, the first of his life. Unfortunately, Blaze had to come back into our kennels before Christmas and he did ok for the first month but lately we have noticed a change in Blaze. Physically he has started to lose weight, despite being well fed and getting extra feeds but it's his sadness that is worrying us.
Lately Blaze has started to shown signs of depression, staying in bed, turning back on his walks to go back to the gate and generally showing a lack of interest in life. He is just the best boy who asks for very little but, in return, will show love and affection.
Ideally Blaze is looking for a quiet, rural home with a nice secure garden where he can happily potter in and out to sunbathe and relax. He'd love his humans at home most of the time as he enjoys company.

Blaze would be fine as, and would prefer to be, an only dog or maybe an older, quiet female would work. We have no history of him with cats. He doesn't like travelling in cars, is completely housetrained and walks on a lead. He really isn't a bother and just wants a place to chill and people to love.

Blaze is such a gentleman but one who is now losing hope. Can anyone offer him a quiet retirement home or even a long term foster?

***November 2024***
In October we saw a plea on a pound page for an old, emaciated, broken dog with hanging tumours that just could no longer cope with pound life. He was at the end of the road and the pound felt it was kinder to end his suffering if nobody stepped forward.
So we did, thinking all we could do was maybe offer this boy a month or so of love and care as he seemed so far gone.

Blaze went into a temporary foster home and with their care, plus the amazing care of our vets at A Country Practice Vet Clinic, he slowly started to gain weight and strength. In time, he had his benign tumours removed though we decided not to neuter him.
For the last two weeks Blaze has had to come back into a kennel within our sanctuary, which is never what we wanted for him but unfortunately it can't be helped, and he is struggling with kennel life.

He is one of the sweetest, kindest, most affectionate, chilled out dogs. He is approximately 8/9 years old and possibly a Mastiff x (size of a Rottie). He is a little deaf and, whilst he has no medical problems with his eyes, his eyesight is that of an older dog also. But he still has a pep in his step and really doesn't require or ask for much, in fact he asks for very little which is why we are really hopeful that its not too late to find Blaze his retirement home.

A home with someone at home most of the day and with a good sized garden or a field would be the icing on the cake as Blaze would be content with just exercising around at home though he does like a short walk too. He loves his comforts and will happily snooze away on the sofa ,snoring his head off.

Blaze is housetrained and walks well on a lead, though he doesn't much like travelling in cars, as he never left the back yard in his previous years. We have no background on Blaze with children and he hasn't met many other dogs though we were told he was removed from a back yard with a female staffie before entering the pound.

All we are hoping for is to find Blaze a quiet, relaxed home that is willing to give an older dog a chance. It can be an official adoption or a forever foster home where GalwaySPCA will cover any occurring costs. All we want is for Blaze to be out of kennels enjoying his twilight years as a much loved family member.

** November 2024**
You may remember Blaze, the older boy we gave a lifeline to a couple of months ago as he was due to be pts in a pound, thanks to a wonderful foster mum we were able to save Blaze and give him some home comforts while he underwent surgeries to remove the growths on his body, which are now all successfully gone. Blaze has also gained weight, on his emaciated body, and has come on in leaps and bounds.
We are now looking for a forever home for Blaze.

We believe that every dog deserves a second chance but none more so than our golden oldies like Blaze. We believe that Blaze is about 10 years old. He is a mixed breed, possibly boxer x mastiff. He doesn't ask for much except a home where there is someone around for most of the day and a garden where he can enjoy a potter or a sunbathe though he does like to take short walks around the neighbourhood too.

We feel that Blaze is best suited as an only dog at this stage so he can benefit from all the love and cuddles which he really enjoys.
Surely there is someone out there willing to give this gentle, chilled, unassuming boy a home to call his own.
