Rupee

Rupee is a loving, kind, gentle and clever 4 year old Springer Spaniel girl who arrived into our care last December with her 6 year old mum who has already been homed. Rupee has the most amazing personality when it comes to people of all sizes, she just wants to be loved and love you in return.
She is fully housetrained, walks well on the lead, travels well in the car and loves doing little obedience sessions (sit, down and stay).

She is the perfect girl except. Rupee is fearful of other strange dogs and will bark and lunge towards them when out walking. We have been doing our very best to work with Rupee and her fear based behaviour and, at times, she does really well but it is still something any potential adopters needs to know.

Rupee can see the dog kennelled next door to her and that dog has changed quite often overlooked the last months and once Rupee gets to know her neighbour she will walk quietly with them, so we can get Rupee through it.

If Rupee could find a rural home where she could relax, chill and walk on quiet roads we are sure that this behaviour could be worked on quite quickly. It's just so sad to see what has to be one of the sweetest gentlest springers we have ever known sit waiting week after week.
If you think you may match Rupees requirement of a rural home and an only dog home then please visit our website for our online adoption forms. Rupee has never lived with cats.

February 2025

Rupee, our 4 year old Springer Spaniel girl, had seen very little of life before coming through our gates with her 6 year old mother. Both girls arrived still with milk in their teats. Their pups were obviously weaned and sold. Used time after time as a back yard breeding bitch, she spent her days behind 4 concrete walls so it's not surprising that she can find some things a little overwhelming.

We are working hard to show Rupee that life outside the walls need not be scary. For example, that she doesn't need to bark at other dogs when meeting them, solely through fear. We paired her up on a walk with ex GSPCA Greyhound Mr. Magoo, whose naturally gentle and calm Greyhound nature was just what Rupee needed, and it only took a few minutes for her to realise that she was ok and safe and she went on to have a lovely, quiet walk beside her new friend, taking confidence from his chilled vibes. People may not realise just how much work rescues need to put into so many of their dogs before considering a home for them. It is time consuming and there isn't a quick fix.

Rupee is the sweetest, most affectionate girl who absolutely loves people and really wants to please so, now that she is starting to let go of her baggage, we are really hopeful that she will soon find herself the all important humans willing to give her a first chance of true happiness.

A few weeks ago we were asked to take this mother and daughter duo of Springers.
Sadly, we knew that if we didn't, their future was not secure and they would continue to be used to pump out litter after litter. They both arrived with milk still in their teats having, obviously, just reared more pups. Their coats were stained with urine, they absolutely stank and their ears were infected.

Daughter, Rupee is 4.5 years old and we are looking to rehome these ladies separately.

They have known nothing of life except a back yard where they spent their days making money for their owners by producing pups. Sadly there are still people willing to ignore the sale of these backyard bred pups, happy to buy them because it's the "pup they always wanted'.

They are very sweet girls who have never known what it is like to be a pet but they are learning. They do walk on leads but, at the moment, they still tend to pull and so will need some more work on that. They are clean in their kennel and the fact that they both still eat their food off the kennel floor, and not out of a bowl, speaks volumes.

There is no doubt that Rupee needs a home willing to be patient as she adapts to home living and the outside world. But she is so deserving of that chance. She is a typical Springer who loves a good run around, nosying in the ditches, playing ball but she also loves a cuddle. She is looking for a home where she will be fulfilled both physically and mentally as her springer genes require.
