Wimpy

Wimpy, the bichon, was rescued from the side of the road with an extremely matted, filthy coat and an old serious injury to his eye. Unfortunately, that injury had been left infected and untreated and so it deteriorated and 2 weeks ago Wimpy had his eye surgically removed by our vet.

Losing an eye is not even Wimpys biggest obstacle in life. It is so obvious to us that little Wimpy has never known much, if any, socialisation. While he will stand for you to put the lead on and will sit near you if you are working at the office desk, he is simply void of showing us any emotion whatsoever. He is basically an empty shell who looks at us every day wondering what we want and why we would want to touch him or love him.

We know that somewhere buried deep inside Wimpy is a boy who can learn what love is all about and we desperately want him to experience the touch and joy good humans can bring to his life and so we are reaching out in a Special Christmas Appeal for a Special Foster home for Wimpy.

*He loves other dogs so there must be at least another dog in the home
*A quiet home without too many people and without young children to unintentionally frighten him with fast, unpredictable movements
*Someone at home most of the day
*A fully secure garden
*Most importantly, humans who are not going to push Wimpy too hard or too fast to be their friend. People who will understand and allow him the time to settle, process his new lifestyle and be patient with him

Are you that special person?

Thanks to our good friend, Jayne Emery, little Wimpy has had a makeover. On her day off Jayne collected Wimpy and whisked him off to her grooming salon and returned him looking and, no doubt feeling, like a new man. While we are not surprised by Jaynes act of kindness and generosity, she and partner Paul are long term GSPCA fosterers and adopters and always on hand to help, we would just like to let her know how truly grateful we are for her unwavering support for our Rescue doggies.

While Wimpy is not currently available for adoption, he will be neutered this week and undergo an operation to remove what's left of the old badly damaged eye he arrived with. Once recovered, we are hoping that he will get his Christmas wish of a forever family.

This bedraggled, matted, scared boy was picked up running through traffic in the dark a few nights ago by some kind and caring people. They rang us and took him home for the night until we could meet up with them the next day. We saw straight away that this unchipped, unneutered male had not lived a life as a loved pet. He was wary, not used to humans and we could see there was something sinister going on with one of his eyes, though it was hard to tell as the eye was completely covered with filthy matted hair.

A trip to our vets and it soon became clear that this little man had suffered a severe injury to his eye some time ago. What was left of his original eye had become infected and totally useless. It was an old injury that he had been left to suffer with. It has now been cleaned and treated and Wimpy will undergo surgery to have the remnants of his eye removed.

Another case of cruelty and neglected and nobody to hold accountable for it. Again, our kennel team stepped up to make a space they really didn't have to accomodate him.

It may take a little time for Wimpy to realise that not all humans are bad. It is sad to watch as he does his best to avoid any interaction with us.
