On Thursday evening our Kennel Manager received a call from someone distressed members of the public who had come across a young pup lying on the side of the road in Galway City. He was scared, had mange but more concerning was his front leg. In turn a city based member of our team headed out and got the pup to Bushy Park Vets for an overnight stay and he is now in our sanctuary.

Sainz as we have named him (yes, we are F1 fans) arrived nervous and unsure which is sad to see in any dog but so sad to see in just a baby of 4 months old. But it didn't take long to convince Sainz that cuddles and kisses were enjoyable and he seemed to understand. Sainz has visited our vet who deemed his break to be an old one which meant somewhere at around 2/2.5 months old Sainz suffered a trauma, followed by immense pain that went untreated. At the moment there isn't anything to do with his leg except rebreak it and try to reset it. We are, on our vets advice, happy to let Sainz be for now as he is doing just fine on his leg and if, at some stage, it does start to cause extreme lameness then we will re-assess. He is not in any pain or discomfort which is, and always will be, our priority for all our dogs.

He is just the sweetest, gentlest little boy who loves his fluffy bed, loves his cuddles and has met and said hello to a couple of our smaller dogs. He is still a little wary and unsure but he will learn to grow in confidence.

We are looking for a quiet kind and calm foster home for Sainz where he can learn that not all humans are scary. Another kind, confident dog would be amazing to help him along but it's not a deal breaker. There must be someone at home all day as he is, after all, only a baby. He needs a foster home that is willing introduce him to the world.
