❤️FOSTER APPEAL❤️
A couple of weeks ago a member of staff was driving home when she came across a dog staggering along a busy road near Laurencetown, Ballinasloe. He was very distressed and had injuries to his head face and eye. She pulled over, caught him and drove him the 50 minutes to our vets not knowing whether he was going to make the journey or not. This poor boy was in a bad way not just because of his injuries that were visible but he was struggling to stand, was dehydrated, flat and showed zero interest in anything going on around him. His face and head were also extremely bloated. His coat was filthy and matted. He was immediately given pain relief and put on a drip.
The next day Cognac had a more through examination and the extend of his injuries soon became apparent. He had many puncture wounds across his head. His eye socket was ruptured and his cheekbone fractured and possibly the side of his jaw. The swelling was due to cellulitis, where severe infection had set in and, his ears were full of fly eggs. Thankfully, there were no broken bones in his legs. Physically he was a mess but mentally this beautiful boy was struggling too. We named him Cognac and awaited news daily from the vet.
After a week of wonderful care, in our vets A Country Practice Vet Clinic, Cognac was allowed home to our sanctuary. Aged 7, this sweet kind boy just seemed grateful to have a warm bed, food, walks and love we could tell he had received very little human love before.
We have no idea where Cognac came from or why he was left alone on a road. His injuries are more consistent with an attack of some sort from a dog or maybe another animal than a road traffic accident.
We are looking for a foster home for Cognac, while we wait to see if the fractured bones around his eye socket heal so we can hopefully save his eye. He has his eye washed daily and eye drops administrated (he is very good at allowing this).
He is neutered and vaccinated and asks for very little. He is a quiet calm boy who loves a walk and has now learned to love his cuddles. All Cognac needs is a quiet home where there is someone at home most of the day and a secure garden.
Whilst Cognac doesn't seemed to bothered about other dogs it would need to be a quiet dog who doesn't jump on him, as his eye is still sore and he has little vision in it. We have no history of Cognac with cats, so a cat free home.
If you are looking to reach out and help a dog in need then please consider giving Cognac a chance.
