Foster Home Needed
**Welcome to The Breakfast Club**
Introducing Sausage, Bacon, Egg and Pudding.
10 days ago we were called about 3 puppies wandering around an estate not too far from our sanctuary. They were supposedly "just wandering" even though we knew well who owned them but proving that is impossible.
When we arrived we could see them lying there full of mange, with big worm bellies, filthy coats, gunky eyes, way too young to be away from Mum and most definitely in huge danger. They were only approximately 5 weeks old.
We loaded them up and brought them back to our sanctuary, watching the fleas hopping off their skinny bodies as we drove. They went for a check up and all were running high fevers and so they were admitted to our vets. Then the worry set in. These 3 babies were prime candidates for the dreaded Parvo disease but thankfully after a few negative snap tests and some fluids, they seemed to pick up and returned to our sanctuary 2 days later. With medicated baths, small but regular feeds, a worming programme these 3 babies slowly started to look and act like they should, under different circumstances.
A staff member paid a visit to the same estate to check up on another case when she spotted "another pup". She knew straight away it was from the same litter. It had apparently been "gifted" to someone on the estate before we arrived but, again, no one knew who.
This baby also had mange ,fleas, a huge wormy belly and was just wandering, as you do at 6 weeks old!!! This is nothing new to us in rescue. We have seen it all before and there's never much point asking questions because nobody knows anything. Once again we loaded him up and took him back to our sanctuary to start his treatment for mange, fleas and worms. 24 hours later, once his treatment had kicked in, we reintroduced this baby to his 3 siblings and now we had 4.
These babies should never have had to endure such neglect, from the moment they were born, but they did and while its added stress, to our already overworked kennel team, we can only be thankful that the pups will have happy futures ahead. They are the lucky ones.
Their mother is not as lucky as she will, no doubt, have yet another litter and another and God only knows where those poor babies will end up. These babies are too young for us to rehome at the moment but we are looking for short term foster homes for them until they are ready to fly the nest.
We believe, or so we were told, that they could be collie x saluki pups but it is anybodys guess at this stage. What we do know is that they are deserving of love, kindness and empathy.
