Little, older, terrier boy Snowy arrived into our care yesterday, which was prearranged as his elderly owner was moved to a nursing home. These are so often extremely sad and upsetting situations for not just dog and owner but also for other family members who are not in a position to offer a home for a variety of reasons.

At GalwaySPCA we firmly believe in these situations that it is what best for the dog. While it may be confusing and a little scary to start with, they do adjust to sanctuary life and it means that they will find a home that truly wants to love and offer them a 5* home and not feel its a "duty" because you are family. Sometimes the greatest gift to dogs in these situations is knowing when not to take a family dog that you simply cannot accommodate, don't really want, can't afford or your lifestyle is just not ready for the time and care we feel they deserve.

Snowy will shortly be looking for his forever home. He is approximately 10 years old and is a sweet natured, quiet and gentle little boy. He loves the car, walks well on the lead (though when he decides that it's time to sniff there is no budging him till he is ready to go). Snowy is housetrained and has lived with a cat before. Once he knows you he is an affectionate boy who loves sitting on your lap or next to you on the sofa.

Snowy has been well cared for and loved. He is not looking for a noisy, busy, energetic lifestyle. A couple of short walks a day will do and a secure garden to potter around in or just sit and watch the world go by. What Snowy needs the most is a new human who will love him unconditionally for the rest of his time and who he can share the sofa with. He would be suited to someone on their own that is at home all the time or most of it.

Snowy will be neutered and have a full health check later this week but his applications are now open.
