Joey has really started to take some notions lately and we are absolutely here for it! Today, our usually timid and reserved boy decided that the adoption room looks much better from the outside looking in. Armed with his trusty cat tower, Joey took a little trip into our Galway SPCA Shop, Briarhill where his original plan was to simply “keep an eye” on the volunteers but instead, he decided to patrol the shop, inspect everything thoroughly and even greet a few customers along the way! He’s not 100% convinced about small children and buggies, just yet, but he is more than happy to be admired from a safe distance. And when the world gets a little too busy, Joey has plenty of choices. He can retreat to his beloved cat tree, his safe space, or head back down to the office for some peace and quiet.

We are still very much taking things at Joey’s pace. He needs time, space and the freedom to decide when and with who he wants to interact. We asked customers to give him that space and not overwhelm him and he took it all in his stride. And honestly… what a difference a day can make! Our boy got his much needed steps in, explored somewhere completely new and probably did more exercise today than he has done in a week! Is this the beginning of Joey becoming our newest shop supervisor? Watch out Shelley! Who knows… 👀 For now, he’s happy hanging out in the shop, keeping everyone on their toes and reminding us just how far he has come.

With space in drastically short supply at the moment, and his sister having found her forever home, we had to get creative with our accommodation arrangement when a litter of foster kittens needed to return to the cattery last minute, last week, Joey was moved into the office. And honestly? We don't think Joey is planning on moving back.

He is absolutely loving his new surroundings with more space, a proper couch, plenty of attention and, most importantly, a captive audience of humans to admire him! Resident parrot Coco, however, is not quite as impressed with his new roommate and has made her feelings very clear. Joey is taking absolutely no notice and is making the most of his office suite!

But behind all the fun, Joey is still waiting for something much more important, his forever home. At around 8kg, Joey is carrying a little more weight than is good for him so his forever family will need to help him with a sensible diet, plenty of exercise and lots of encouragement to shed a few kilos.

He can be timid when he first meets you but once Joey warms up he is an absolute sweetheart and a firm favourite with everyone who knows him. He deserves a home where he can have that wonderful one to one attention, space to stretch those legs and someone who will love him through his weight loss journey. And if he gets to continue believing he is the manager of the office along the way we suspect that Joey will be perfectly happy with that arrangement.

How is it possible that Joey (M) is still waiting for a home. Week after week, he watches other cats leave for their forever homes, while he patiently waits for someone to choose them. Everyone who meets him says the same thing, that he's incredibly affectionate, gentle, and so easy to love. He would quietly steal your heart. Despite this, he keeps being overlooked.

At 7 years old, Joey has left the chaos of kittenhood behind. He offers something just as special: calm companionship, endless affection and a home filled with gentle purrs instead of midnight zoomies.

But the truth is, adult cats make some of the very best companions. Their personalities are already formed, they settle into home life beautifully and the bond they create with their people is truly something special.

Joey and Bailey are still patiently waiting for their second chance at a forever home. This quiet, unassuming pair may be a little shy when you first meet them but once they feel comfortable, their affectionate personalities shine through. Both enjoy a gentle fuss and are more than happy to curl up beside you for a cuddle on the couch.

Joey and Bailey are looking for a calm, quieter home where they can settle in at their own pace. They have never lived with children or other animals, so a peaceful environment would suit them best. However, with the right introductions, preparation, and understanding, they could potentially adapt to a home with older children or settled cat savvy other pets.

If you're looking for loyal companions who simply need a little time and patience to blossom, Joey and Bailey could be the perfect match.

While they get along and complement one another they are not totally reliant on one another and so we would also consider homing them separately to the right homes.




**March 2026**
Joey and Bailey have come into our cattery in the hopes of finding them a forever home that is more suited to their personalities. Both are 7years old and, despite being loved by their former owner, the two have had some setbacks in their living environment after a move that meant that staying there isn't the best option for them. Joe had been displaying all the common signs of stress. like peeing in inappropriate places. Vet checks revealed there were no underlying medical issues to cause this behaviour and his added stress meant that Bailey was also feeling uneasy about everything.

So far Bailey has settled in really well, she sits up and watches all the comings and goings of the cattery. She doesn't seem bothered by her neighbours and could potentially live with other cats.

Joey is a little more reserved with our team and is slower to explore and interact, but is still a very loving boy, once you allow him the time to adjust. He loves his food. Joey has shown no other signs of inappropriate behaviour, while he has been in our care, but mainly sticks to himself and ignores a lot of the hustle and bustle around him. While the two get along very well they could be rehomed together as they like to check in every now and again, but are not totally bonded and their ideal homes are not exactly the same, so we would consider rehoming them separately in the right homes.
They are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered.
