Goose

Just before the New Year we were contacted by a family who were desperate to rehome their 6 year old cat. We have heard and seen so many excuses over the past year from people and it's easy to become cynical when the calls come in, in the volume that they do. We know that there are some genuine cases out there but we are well aware of just how many of the calls are based on the animal being an inconvenience. So when we got the call regarding Goose we were skeptical, at first until we saw the results of his distress.
Gooses family had spent the past few years trying to help him adjust to his growing family. But as the kids became more mobile Gooses stress and anxiety around the young children grew. With his mental and physical health affected his family had no choice but to do what was best for Goose and try to find him another home. Having reached the end of all avenues they reached out to see if we could help.

Taking any adult cat from a home with their humans is very stressful on the cat and with our space very limited we wondered if we would actually be helping Goose or would the move have the opposite effect on him. Thankfully one of our amazing volunteers expressed an interest in fostering should "the right cat" need a space. Because of her long working hours, she didn't fit our normal criteria for a foster home especially when it is mostly young kittens that need it. But for Goose it was purrfect!

Despite a rocky start and some unexpected kitchen demolition, when he found himself hiding in the wrong place while evading a vet visit sorry Maria, things have settled down and Goose is loving his peace and quiet. His stress has reduced and so has his obsessive licking! The hair on his legs has even started to regrow.

Goose will continue to stay with Maria for now until we can find him a forever home, child and cat free where he can continue to be the centre of attention and have his people to himself.
