Winston

Little older boy Winston was removed by a dog warden back a few months ago. We just couldn't say no to this little older boy and he arrived into her care as a walking skeleton, with gungy eyes, fleas and hair loss.

Once Winston had seen our vets and his needs were assessed we started to look for his forever home.  Sadly, after a month in that forever home, it became clear that the resident 15 year old dog was struggling to adjust to Winston (though she had previously lived with another dog) and it was becoming unfair on both her and Winston.

So we collected Winston and brought him back to our sanctuary. Thankfully he didn't seem to mind being back and was soon patrolling the front garden and sun bathing as though he had never left. But we wanted to find him a home asap but knew this time it had to be definitely his forever home.

Winston received quite a lot of lovely applications but there was one that just stood out.
Enter Deborah and Mark who went out of their way to change plans so they could drive down from Dublin to meet the man himself, straight away. It was safe to say it was love at first sight and even with some ongoing health issues hanging over Winston (yet to be confirmed by our own vet) Deborah and Mark were more than willing to take Winston home and make an appointment with their own vet to confirm the tests we were about to do. Our offer to cover those vet fees were also waved away and we were told they were more than happy to cover costs themselves as we had enough vet bills to be dealing with!!
Their kindness and generosity didn't go unnoticed and just confirmed that Deborah and Mark were going to give Winston the most amazing home.

Winston has settled into City life and is the joy of his family. He knows all the neighbours and stops to say good morning to all of them as he races down his street every day with Mum or Dad in tow. He has become quite the neighbourhood celeb!

We always say it takes special people to adopt a rescue but sometimes you need those extra special people to come along for older dogs, dogs with slight issues, and Deborah and Mark most definitely have that little bit of extra special about them.

We are, as always, so very grateful that they chose our little older boy Winston to share their home and hearts with and we wish them all many happy adventures and days together.
