Many of you will remember our story of the totally matted, emaciated, bedraggled scared and old collie boy who was so horrifically dumped near our rescue gates in November. He, unfortunately wandered off down the laneways and across nearby fields, maybe looking for the person who dumped him, spent 2 nights out in sub zero temperatures before coming back to our gates where he was finally spotted and brought to the safety of a kennel. Not only was he barely able to stand due to his zero body score but it was clear to see he was unbalanced and a little disorientated. He was later diagnosed with early Vestibular Syndrome. We named him Mr. Sprigs and we all instantly fell in love with his sweet, affectionate nature, kind and gentle ways but most of all his ability to forgive what had been done to him by a cowardly owner. Our team set about building Mr. Sprigs up and giving him the life he probably never even knew existed.
In mid December our kennel manager had a foster application come in from a couple well known to us here at GalwaySPCA over the years. Jan and Ian have been great supporters and had previously adopted many of their dogs from us. They offered Mr. Sprigs a foster home and we couldn't think of a better foster home that would tick all his boxes. So we headed off to deliver a very special boy to a very special home which he would share with 2 other rescue doggie sisters. And he loved it. The big gardens, the paddocks, a playful terrier girl and a kind greyhound girl to show him around. But what he loved most was the love, cuddles and attention his foster mum and dad bestowed upon him. A few weeks later on December 31st we watched Mr. Sprigs walk back across our rescue carpark. Walking either side of him was his foster Mum and Dad. They felt they could no longer be Mr. Sprigs foster family. They were back to become his "FOREVER FAMILY".
We are so very grateful to Jan and Ian for giving Mr. Sprigs the most wonderful, loving forever home and we wish them many beautiful moments together. Special people for a special boy.
