Grylls, now Bear

Grylls, now Bear

Grylls was picked up as a stray and taken to Galway County Pound. On one of our visits there we spotted Grylls and put him our list of "dogs to help". Sadly that list continued to get pushed back as we dealt with the many stray and abandoned cases that came our way prioritising those dogs first so it was a month before we could keep our promise to Grylls.
Like some other breeds many people believe that Foxhounds do not make amazing family pets but here at Galway SPCA, while we are respectful of each different breed and their natural genetics, we also firmly believe in treating each dog as an individual.
Grylls was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest most loving boy and became a very much loved boy at our sanctuary. So much so that two of our staff decided to go hiking on one of their days off (we have the most dedicated team) and Grylls loved his 12km hike up Moylussa.
After we posted his hiking photos his post caught the eye of a man called Colin who loved the photos so much he realised he needed to get back on his hiking boots and head off with the family dog Scampi. Which he duly did the next day, heading into Portumna Forest for a long walk and guess who he met on that walk??
Yes, he met the dog that had inspired him to get up and out, the previous day, Grylls who was kindly accompanying a dog less confident than him).
Stopping to say hi it was on the drive home that Colin decided that meeting Grylls that morning was a "sign" and he sent in an application form that day.
It has been a month since Grylls became a part of the Cooney Family where he lives with his new brother Scampi, 2 cats and 2 human siblings. He goes by the name of Bear and is a much loved member of the family.
We cannot thank the wonderful Cooney family enough for their commitment to adopting Grylls/Bear. New fencing was erected and training classes attended so that they could welcome him into their hearts and home.
Thank you ❤️
