Goosie Loosie, now Ember

During the summer a very traumatised little Springer Spaniel girl arrived into our care. We named her Goosie Loosie. At first Goosie was so afraid of humans that she hid in the corner of her kennel and it took staff a while to gain her trust. Our slowly, slowly approach did begin to work though Goosie never fully left her traumatic past behind her.

We knew that she needed a special home with special people who would see past the scared, untrusting girl, at a meet and greet, to see what could be given time, patience and love. Thankfully we found those special people in Quirine and Wouter, along with their dog Abby.

Goosies meet and greet went exactly as we predicted with Goosie feeling very unsure around strangers but Quirine and Wouter stuck with her, sitting quietly on the floor, avoiding direct eye contact, speaking low and, of course, Abby played a blinder in reassuring Goosie. Quirine and Wouter saw the potential and were willing to help heal Goosies broken spirit.

That was in September and it took a little while but Goosie, now Ember, has blossomed beyond hope in the loving care of her new family. She gets to go on hikes and adventures where her inner spaniel is unleashed and fulfilled, coming home as a very mucky but happy pup. She loves her lazy mornings in her humans bed and evening cuddles on the sofa. This was all made possible because two very special people saw past her fears.

From a terrified stray to a much adored and happy family member.

We are, as always, forever grateful to all who choose to adopt one of our rescue doggies.
Especially those dogs who come with some extra baggage that they need time to unpack.
Love really does conquer all.
