Federer was one of 5 dogs that we assisted the local Dog Warden with and took on when they were removed them from horrendous living conditions. Federer took a little time to get comfortable with us but soon turned into a fun and loving boy once he knew and trusted you. He watched as his bestie Rafa, then McEnroe head off to their forever homes and, despite posting Federer on our social media pages, we started to think that maybe he too would have to rely on help from our friends in the UK or Italy like many of our sighthounds do.
That was until Christine spotted him and sent in her application offering to make the drive from Dublin to Galway any number of times to get to know him. Having previously found a stray lurcher years before that adopted Christine and her family, she had an idea of how some Sighthounds can be a little cautious due to their past. She came and met Federer and it seemed as though he knew Christine was there for him and after a few mins he was quite happy to head off for a walk with her.
The rest, as the say, is history and Federer now goes by the name of Fred and has been happily living a dream life in Dublin with mum Christine and dad Brendan for the last month. It has taken Federer a little while to become best friends with Brendan (due to his fear of men) but they have worked hard at getting to know one another and they now have a lovely relationship.
Fred is loving being a part of a family and enjoys his walks and adventures around his neighbourhood. He loves meeting up with his new doggie cousins and we hear that he is now starting training school to improve his "selective hearing".
We are so happy to get the lovely updates Christine very kindly shared with us and it really is a "Rags to Riches" story for what was once another "forgotten hound". We are always so very grateful to those who choose to adopt a rescue dog and it's always wonderful when its one that is so often overlooked.
Thank you Christine and Brendan for allowing our boy Federer the chance to blossom into the handsome, happy boy that is now Fred.
