Many of you will remember Deefer, the bullie boy, who was found by one of our team as he tried desperately to stop cars looking for help for his 7/8 lurcher friend who, sadly, lay dead on the road nearby. Deefer arrived into our care that morning and we all instantly fell in love with the loveable, goofy, affectionate boy he was.
At first Deefer loved his life with us, galloping around our fields, getting loads of cuddles and making friends. But, as time went on, Deefer started to lose hope and his wails of despair echoed around our sanctuary. He lost weight, his skin flared up from stress and no matter what we did we just couldn't help Deefer find his mojo. We were all heartbroken knowing we couldn't give him the one thing he craved the most...a family of his own.
And then a small ray of hope. Jayne and Paul have been long term fosterers and supporters of GalwaySPCA, often taking on those dogs in foster that no one else would and now they were offering Deefer a foster lifeline. It couldn't have come at a better time.
Deefer headed home to meet the resident dogs.
Dougie, an ex GSPCA, Staffie x.
Dempsey, an ex GSPCA, Boxer.
Hebe, ex GSPCA, staffie girl who was nearly 2 years in our kennels waiting for a very special home due to her traumatised ways.
Duchess, an older rescued basset girl
Tilly, the 15 yr old chi x rescued from the pound.
Yet Jayne and Paul were ready to make room for Deefer and ensure that it worked so he could reap the benefits of being in a home.
That was nearly 2 months ago and today Paul, Jayne and Hebe brought Deefer back to our sanctuary as it was Deefers 5th Birthday and we were delighted to be able to share it with him. But, we weren't just celebrating Deefers 5th Birthday today. We were celebrating the most important day of Deefers life as he became Paul and Jaynes forever boy as they signed his adoption papers.
We couldn't be happier for the boy with the biggest heart that he now has the best Mum and Dad and lots of brother and sisters who will love and cherish him forever.
As always, Thank you Jayne and Paul for yet again making one of our dogs dreams come true.
