In July we were asked to help a little middle aged terrier from Offaly Pound. She arrived subdued, unsure and with a huge hernia dangling from her underneath. We named her Tulla.
After quite a complicated hernia operation and full recovery, our team set about bringing some joy into Tullas daily life and boy did she embrace it. Tulla loved our open fields, disappearing into our hedges on the hunt for birds, mice or anything that moved and once she had made sure our hedges were all checked out, she would happily pop onto our knees for cuddles and ear scratches which she had issues with demanding. We were just so happy to see her happy and sunny personality appear more with every passing day. Tulla also loved to sit in her bed on our front door step watching the other dogs go by and catching the summer rays. After her previous life, we must have given her a little slice of heaven over those few months with us. But we wanted Tulla to have all of heaven so we popped her up for rehoming and waited for the perfect person.
And along came Rita who after the loss of her previous dog was hoping to find a new best friend and companion to accompany her on her daily beach and forest walks but who wouldn't be fazed by a somewhat opinionated and ,at times stubborn, lovable terrier girl. The meet and greet was a success and it wasn't long before Rita was signing her adoption agreement, which Tulla of course had to re-read to check all was to her liking.
It has been some weeks now since Tulla, now Ulla, headed home with her new mum Rita and it iss safe to say that there were a few "battles of wills" in the early days between two lovely but opinionated ladies but with perseverance, routine and love Rita and Ulla now live in harmony enjoying their daily adventures whether that be out in the estuary dunes watching birds (watching not chasing Ulla !!) or picking blackberries on their forest tracks. It is indeed heaven.
We are, as always, very grateful to you amazing folk who choose to give a rescue a second chance. In this case we thank Rita and wish you and your best friend Ulla many happy miles together.
