On Valentines Day we had a very special meet and greet booked in. Padraig had grown up with dogs all his life and his love of dogs continued throughout the years. He always had a best friend by his side. Sadly in early February his current little dog passed away and Padraig was lost without a dog in his life to keep him company. His daughter, Pauline, contacted us to see if we thought we might have a little dog suitable for her Dad so we asked her to fill out an adoption form so we could see if we had a match. The application was full of love and kindness and we knew we wanted to help mend Padraigs broken heart.
Enter Bibs. Bibs, a Maltese x, had gone to a home a couple of months earlier but was due to come back into our care as no matter how hard the family tried, their existing dog was struggling greatly to adjust to having another dog in the home and it had become detrimental to both Bibs and her. We knew we had the perfect person to give Bibs a fresh start in life and we also knew that Bibs was just the dog to help bring joy and love into a certain man's heart and home.
It was love at first sight as Bibs entered Pacos Den where Padraig was waiting to meet him and there were quite a few "wet eyes" from the staff on that day as they watched Padraigs face light up as Bibs hopped up beside him to say hello. We sent them off for a walk together. "I've found my Valentines" (more wet eyes) were Padraigs words as he arrived back and, after doing the mandatory paperwork, all Padraig wanted was to load up his new best friend as fast as he could so they could head off to start their new life together as best friends.
We hear that Bibs, now Teddy, settled in as though he had always lived there, that himself and his Dad walk to the beach every day and take many car trips together. Of course, where else would Bibs be but sleeping but right in beside his Dad. Bibs/Teddy also has a new doggy cousin (Padraigs daughters dog) who he sees all the time for play dates and longer walks together.
Adopting a Rescue Dog isn't just about saving that dog, sometimes its about saving the human too. Thank you Padraig for giving Bibs/Teddy the most wonderful life. We wish you both many years of love and happiness together.
