The Importance of Microchipping and Registering

The Importance of Microchipping and Registering

At 12.30am last night/early this morning, a GSPCA volunteer had finished her shift at work, in Galway City, and was arriving home to Loughrea when she spotted these two dogs running up the road near the lake on the Gort Road. She immediately stopped and whilst the lab was happy enough to be caught, it took a little longer for the lurcher to trust her but he wasn’t losing sight of his friend and soon both dogs were safe in her car.
A call to our kennel manager at 1am (who may have grunted slightly 😜🤣) they decided it was best the two dogs stayed overnight at our volunteer, Marcella’s, house, which was not as easy as it sounds as she had her own dog to juggle around.
Thankfully, Marcella had a scanner and while she was en-route to our sanctuary with the 2 dogs early we were able to contact their owner who arrived not long after, delighted to be reunited with his 2 boys. All because he had microchipped AND registered his details of his dogs chips as per the law, but a law that is, unfortunately, seldom adhered.
Well done to Marcella who didn’t ignore these two dogs, who made sure she got them both safe, who re-arranged her home to accommodate them overnight and brought them to our sanctuary this morning.
