Running For Rescue - Katie and Maggie

We would like to say a massive and well deserved 'Well Done and Thank You' to one of our own GalwaySPCA Team, Katie and her ex Galway SPCA dog Maggie (was Etsy) as they completed their first ever Canicross Race yesterday in our name, raising some badly needed funds for our animals vet bills which have skyrocketed over the last few months due to a influx of cruelty cases needing extra care.
Katie could have chosen to run a 10km Canicross Race which would have been amazing in itself but being the passionate animal lover she is having been reared since a young child in our sanctuary Heathlawn, she decided they would step it up and ran a Half Marathon, 21.1km, with Maggie.
While this duo have been pounding the fields, pathways and riverbanks together over the last 6 weeks in preparation, they are both complete amateurs at Canicross (and Maggie still holds some issues from her past), they finished in 4th place in a totally respectable time of 2hrs 11mins (Maggie stopped to toilet twice).
While it's an achievement for the human here, the biggest achievement is seeing what was once a terrified, abandoned little Patterdale through all her baggage and issues away and achieve it also. This shows that with time, patience and love rescue dogs can do anything. Little dog, big heart.
We are truly grateful and so very proud of both of them for putting in such an effort in the name of GalwaySPCA.
And to you guys, our supporters, followers, families, friends and all round animal lovers for your outstanding generosity, kindness and loyalty we are so grateful, always have been and always will be. Your donations are so often the financial difference between us being able to continue to take in the next cruelty case we are faced with and thank you just never seems enough
But we will say it anyway, 3 times.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

So many of you have already so very kindly donated towards this amazing pairs, Katie and Maggie the ex GSPCA Patterdales, first Canicross Race this weekend across the hills of Devon. They are not afraid to push themselves in the name of the animals at Galway SPCA.

It's a huge undertaking for both humans and canine legs but its extra special considering a year ago Maggie (was Etsy) was a terrified stray surviving up in the forestry and lakes of barren countryside where she and 3 other dogs had been left to die. Maggie is not still without her quirks but will be putting all her quirks and fears aside to try and raise as much funds, and awareness, for rescue dogs.

We hear that training is going very well and they are well prepped for this weekends event.  They are running because our funds are running low and the last few months have hit us hard with tough case after tough case. And they are still coming.

Katie, our kennel managers daughter, is all too aware of each and every case, aware of the relentless drain on our finances and emotions and this is her way of raising some badly needed funds for our animals and we hope they can reach the target they've set. Every euro counts and every euro makes a difference to each animal in our care.
We thank you sincerely for your continued support.

And a special grateful thanks to Katie and Little Maggie who are putting in tremendous work in the name of rescue.

*Running For Rescue*
Katie and Maggies Canicross Half Marathon..

Rescue is always full of its ups and downs, emotionally and financially but somehow we manage to get ourselves through the most difficult patches. But, over the last few months we have taken a severe hammering financially as it just seems to be one cruelty, neglected case after another with all requiring extensive veterinary care.

And despite the vets we work with giving us rescue rates and taking care of us as much they can, our vet bills are huge with so many animals needing extra veterinary work than the usual routine. We were and are struggling.

For some of you Katie is not be a stranger. A young lady reared throughout her childhood at our sanctuary and who, despite now living in the UK, remains a loyal and devoted member of our GalwaySPCA Team. She is an amazing girl who tries her very best to help us raise funds and ran a half marathon, in our name, earlier this year.

Katie is off again, with another half marathon fundraiser, to help us through this latest difficult patch by hopefully raising some much needed funds after continually seeing cruelty case after cruelty case come through our doors and feeling helpless to stop the flow. But, this time, she is not running alone. This time Katie will have her adopted Galway SPCA Patterdale, Maggie, by her side as they plough along the tracks and hills of Devon for 21.1 kilometres in their first ever Cani Cross Half Marathon Race together.

Katie and Maggie have been training together for a couple of months and Maggie is absolutely loving her new hobby of Canicross, alongside her mum. Not bad for a little girl who still carries many scars and issues from her previous life yet is ready to fly the flag for all Rescue Dogs, proving they can and do adapt given the chance.

Katie and Maggies half Marathon is November 1st and we will be cheering them on every step of the way. We are so grateful to Katie and Maggie for putting in this huge effort in the hope of raising funds for our animals now and going forward.

Please, please, if you can, get behind this Fundraiser and donate what you can as it would mean so much not just to our two runners, not just to us, it would mean more chances, more futures for our animals. We have always been so grateful to you for your wonderful support over the years and we hope you can help us now.

Thank you
