Today, March 23rd, was the day one of our team Katie (now living in the UK but always to be found back up the sanctuary when she is home) took part in the Reading Half Marathon to raise money for Wriggles our little paralysed terrier girl who had life changing surgery that would hopefully give her a chance at walking again.
Katie hasn't run since early 2024 and, only started training a month ago, knew that today was going to be a challenge but she felt that if Wriggles could overcome her challenges then she could to.
Run, so Wriggles can Walk became her motto and today she kept those words firmly in her mind over the 21km course she faced. To say she did herself, and us, proud is an understatement as she not just completed the run but in a very respectable time of 2hrs 7mins which is not bad for hardly any training. Most of all Katie did Wriggles proud as she ran for her and for all rescue dogs who have faced challenges on their journeys in life.
And now to YOU, the most amazingly kind, generous and emphatic supporters who so willingly got behind Wriggles and Katie by donating, sharing and leaving words of support. You raised a whopping €4120 on the Go Fundme page plus approximately another €350 in cash donations. A total of €4470.
We cannot thank you all enough but please know just how grateful we, as a rescue, are and how your donation brings about changes for those animals in need.
To the main woman today, Katie, we have always known just how passionate and determined you have been for those without a voice and we have watched you grow from a child to the amazing woman you are today, never afraid to speak out for the animals.
And for what you have achieved today and everyday as an animal lover we are truly thankful.
On behalf of all at GalwaySPCA, thank you

We made the decision to give Wriggles every fighting chance to get back on her legs in the hope that one day, in the not to distant future, Wriggles would not just walk again but run, play and live a fulfilled life.
She had surgery at the end of January at Vet Specialist Ireland. Surgery is often the easy part. It's the months of care and physio that come after it that take time, dedication and patience. Her surgery cost €5370. A huge amount to a small rescue and charity like our but Wriggles deserved a chance. Two weeks ago our Kennel Managers daughter Katie, who grew up at the sanctuary and now lives in the UK, contacted us as she wanted to help us find the cost of Wriggles surgery and had an idea.
Knowing that Wriggles was now facing the biggest challenge of her young life in learning to walk again, also knowing the challenges we face as a rescue, day in day out, emotionally, physically and financially, Katie was now going to face her own challenge for Wriggles cause. Giving herself just a month for training, Katie will run the Reading half marathon on Sunday 23rd March for Wriggles and her vet bill.
Her words of "Run, so Wriggles can Walk" are her motivation and we are so very grateful and proud of her. Katie has set up a Go Fund Me https://gofund.me/13f4f2f1 and it would mean so much to Katie, Wriggles and all of us at Galway SPCA if you could please help by donating whatever you can. Every euro helps, every euro shows us the kindness and empathy we know exists in a world that is so often shrouded in animal cruelty and neglect.
Please show your support for Katie so we can continue to support Wriggles on her journey. We will be cheering her on every step of the way, just as we will with Wriggles.
