Earlier this week we were contacted and asked if we could take a couple of dogs. In the video we were sent we could see 5 dogs in a yard and we just knew we couldn’t take that many due to lack of space and having already promised any upcoming space before Christmas to a couple of pound dogs. So we set off to meet the owner and when we got there his 5 dogs plus one from his neighbour were sitting in two crates peering up at us!
How do you choose two?
How do you walk away knowing the four you have left behind remain unwanted and what will become of them?
Where can we safely kennel six so they get the care and dedication they need?
How will our already overwhelmed and exhausted team cope with all the extra work six more dogs will bring?
Six more mouths and six more vet bills!
We made a few calls and thanks to Marita at Star Rescue who has offered to take three from us tomorrow. They will take the father of younger brindle pug x and the two brindle pug x (mother and daughter). Thankfully we were able to say YES to all six !! The little red terrier, the brown and white pug x and the little hairy terrier will remain in our care.
To be honest ,we were never going to walk away from any of them but knowing we had help from Star Rescue for 3 meant we could still keep our promise to the Pound Dogs who need to be out before Christmas.
All 6 dogs had to be bathed on arrival to our sanctuary as the smell was overbearing (the water was black !!) They have been wormed, a couple have needed skin medication for mange and they were checked by a vet. All curled up tonight in warm, cosy beds for the first time in their lives, no doubt.
Most of the females have so obviously been bred from.
Tomorrow is a new day in their new lives
Rescues working together.
If you buy from a backyard breeder, you are as big a problem as they are to dogs like these.
