On the 31st July 2023 a little lurcher boy entered a shed, lay down and closed his eyes, in his mind possibly for the very last time. He was so starved he couldn’t stand up. His skin was raw and painful. He had broken bones in one of his feet and he really had no desire to continue a life where he had known such cruelty and neglect.
But we crossed his path and Kamili (the perfect one) arrived into the care of our kennel team at Galway SPCA.
His journey with us wasn’t an easy one, at times, but on that day in July we made Kamili a promise, a promise that we would heal him, that we would make him tall and proud and that he would always be loved and safe.
And that’s exactly what we did.
For “179 Days” we loved this boy unconditionally and we never lost sight of the dream we held for him. There were tough days on this journey as we battled to bring Kamili full circle but if he could overcome dark days, then so could we. And finally on the 26th January we hugged Kamili for the very last time as we prepared him for the biggest part of his journey yet.
Thanks to our wonderful, hard working friends at Erin Hounds Sighthound Rescue Kamili headed to his forever home, where he would pair up with another Galway SPCA lurcher Lauper (now Lupa), a home that was just perfect for him. We are forever grateful to Erinhounds and Kamili’s new family for making this dream become a reality.
We also have so many of you guys to thank for supporting not just Kamili but also our work. Without donations, kind words, gifts and general words of comfort we would have folded a long time ago. Without knowing it our supporters are what keep Galway SPCA ticking over and we thank you all deeply.
Whilst we wave goodbye to a boy who will stay forever in our hearts we sadly welcome the next cases of cruelty and neglect that continue to arrive day after day. But we know we can change more lives, the same way we changed Kamilis.
Enjoy your new world Kamili and remember you are exactly as your name says “Perfection”. Remember you will always be loved and remembered by the team at Galway SPCA
