3 PEAK CHALLENGE
Most people will never see the side of animal rescue that we see.
The frightened dog tied to a gate and left behind.
The kitten found hungry and alone.
The injured animal with nobody coming to claim them.
The animals that arrive scared, neglected and unwanted.
Katie has seen it.
As a long-time Galway SPCA volunteer, she has been there for the heartbreaking cases, the emergency rescues, the happy endings and everything in between. She knows how much it takes to give these animals a second chance.
But now living in the UK means she can no longer be hands on (only when home to visit) so she sees the only way she can help the animals in our care, is by raising the much needed funds we as a rescue need to keep on top of the constant barrage of cruelty and neglect that come through our doors every week and sometimes every day at times.
So that’s why, on the 27th and 28th June next week she’s taking on one of the toughest challenges of her life.
In just 24 hours, Katie will climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon — the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales.

There’ll be exhaustion. There’ll be aching legs. There’ll be very little sleep and there’ll almost certainly be moments where she will ask herself why she signed up for it.
But when things get tough, she’ll keep going for the animals.
Warning graphic photos included...
Because every day at Galway SPCA, we meet animals who have nobody else fighting for them. Like Saluki baby, Misaki, who was found lying abandoned in a roadside ditch with the most horrific injury to one of her front paws, so severe she had to have her leg amputated at only 5 months old.

Or like our baby kitten, Vanilla Toast, found in similar circumstances, who also may yet lose her front leg as her injuries are so severe.

These are just two of our latest cases. Every day we are told of yet more animals in need and, sadly, we can only help as many as our resources allow. We are a small charity. We don’t have endless resources. We rely on ordinary people doing extraordinary things to help us keep going. This is Katie’s way of helping.
If you can spare a few euro, please support her challenge. If you can’t donate, please share this. Every donation will help us feed, treat, rescue and care for all the animals who desperately need it.
From all of us at Galway SPCA — and from the animals whose lives will be changed because of your kindness — thank you.

Katie, we’re so proud of you. Go smash those mountains and don't forget spare socks and a headtorch)
