Devons Recovery

The day that was meant to be his happiest, the day we hoped he’d finally meet his forever family became one of the most heartbreaking. Suddenly, our once bouncy, joyful, full of life couldn’t walk properly. The sparkle in his step was gone, he was in pain, and he didn’t understand why. Our volunteers rushed him straight to the vets.

X-rays told the story no-one wanted to hear. His knees were slipping in and out of place every time he moved and every step hurt. Grade 4 medial patella luxation in his right knee and grade 3 in his left. His little legs had grown so quickly that his joints simply couldn’t keep up. The only option was for major bilateral surgery in both knees.

While the surgery itself was daunting, what broke our hearts most was what would follow.
6 weeks of strict cage rest. Tough news for a young, energetic, playful boy who just wanted to run, jump, and live.

But Devon showed us just how special he truly is! Day after day, he stayed gentle, patient and brave. He leaned into every bit of comfort we could give lick mats, puzzle toys, soft voices and reassuring cuddles. Even when he didn’t understand why his world had suddenly become so small he trusted that we would do what was best for him.

Now after 70 days we got the words we’d been waiting for
Devon has been given the ALL CLEAR!

It will take a few weeks to regain his muscle and strength but with physio and care he will be able to run and play again. He will be the happy, carefree boy he was always meant to be.

But there’s still one thing missing from his story - A forever home.
After all he  endured, Devon doesn’t just deserve a family.....
he deserves the very best one. One that will see his strength, his sweetness and his incredible spirit. Could that be you?

Stay tuned when his search begins again.
A massive thanks to the team at Briarhill Veterinary Clinic and Herman, the orthopaedic surgeon, for helping us along Devon's journey.
